That's right, you can now tune your instrument online for free without installing any additional software. Just click “START” button, grant permission to use microphone, and you are ready to go!

Tips For More Accurate Tuning

Thick To Thin

Start tuning with the thickest string (E2) at the top of guitar's fretboard and work your way down to the thinnest string (E4). If you start with thinner strings, they might be out of tune by the time you finish tuning the thickest string.

Up, Not Down

Tune up to note, not down. If pitch is too high (sharp note), tune the string down until pitch is too low (flat note) and then start tuning it up until you reach the correct note. This way string will be properly stretched and your guitar will stay in tune for a longer time.

Gently, In The Middle

Don't strike the string too strongly, pluck it gently. Don't pluck it too close to the bridge of your guitar (the place where strings are fastened at the back of guitar's body), pluck it closer to the middle of string. This way you produce sound with less overtones and more stable pitch which is easier for the tuner to read.

Wait

Wait a moment after you play a string and let the pitch stabilize. The most accurate pitch will be displayed 1 to 3 seconds after the string was played. This is especially important when you tune lower notes (thicker strings) as pitch that is detected initially might be higher than it really is when string stabilizes.

Silence

Tune your guitar in a quiet place because environmental noises might affect accuracy of the tuner.

Manual Mode

Switch the tuner to “MANUAL” mode when you are putting on new strings or your guitar is completely out of tune. Sounds that are far away from anticipated notes can be confusing for the tuner when running in “AUTO” mode.

Feedback And Suggestions

This online tuner is still a work in progress. I am not quite happy with the quality of pitch detection, and besides standard tuning I plan to add drop D and other nonstandard tunings. If you have ideas how to improve this tuner or you have encountered any difficulties using it, please let me know.

Stay in tune! :)
